Save the date for the Restoring Ancestral Winds Shi Doo Shima: A Navajo Tea Party- A Safety Conversation

November is Native American Heritage Month: Join us for “Colonialism, Thanksgiving, and the Direct Influence on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence in Native Communities;” an eye-opening presentation that delves into the lasting impact of colonialism on Native communities today. This session will explore the intersection of colonial history and contemporary issues, including the epidemic of sexual assault and domestic violence in Indigenous communities. By examining how European settler-colonialism disrupted Indigenous cultures, family structures, and traditional ways of life, we will better understand the roots of current struggles faced by Native women and children. Additionally, the presentation will reflect on how colonial narratives, particularly surrounding Thanksgiving, have been used to diminish the painful realities of Native peoples and their ongoing trauma.”
