Nonprofits have a close-up view of community needs and can and should take advantage of their right to influence law and policy. After this workshop\, you will have a clear understanding of what advocacy activities your 501(c)(3) can engage in\, what communications count as lobbying\, and how to maximize your non-lobbying advocacy. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nHow federal tax law permits lobbying for charities and how lobbying is defined;\nOne easy step most charities can take to maximize the amount they’re allowed to spend on lobbying;\nYearly lobbying limits for charities;\nTips for taking advantage of the narrow definitions of lobbying – which will help charities make the most of their lobbying limit; and\nHow to apply these rules to ballot measure activities.

DESCRIPTION:Tribal Coalition outreach/training staff and similar positions are invited to attend this ATCEV event. \nThe Tribal Coalition Outreach/Training Institute will include sessions to support the capacity of Tribal Coalition’s efforts to provide outreach and training to Tribal communities and domestic/sexual violence member programs. The 2-day interactive institute will provide opportunities to enhance outreach efforts\, incorporate best practices\, and strengthen community response to domestic/sexual violence.
